Yes, wine is the magic elixir of life. And while I love spirits and beer as well, wine will always be my number one ❤️.
Since we moved to Portugal, we have been drinking Portuguese wines almost exclusively for a year and a half. The variety and quality of the wines here are staggering. I can safely say that I could spend the rest of my life drinking only wines from Portugal and be quite happy.
I never thought I would say that about one country. (The same goes for the spirits, BTW!)
Lately, Solheiro Alvarinho is at the top of my drinking list. And, here's the thing, it is not just one wine, but an array of Alvarinho wines of every stripe. They have an entry level Alvarinho, a full-bodied reserva, and even a biodynamic Alvarinho that is unfiltered and spends partial malolactic fermentation time in chestnut barrels. (Innovation is their business!)
The box we ordered from the winery during lockdown. It came with three wines, a wine key, key chain, a virtual tasting and voucher for a trip to the winery.
We are planning a trip to the winery in the fall. Solheiro is located in the northernmost part of the Minho region up by the Spanish border in Portugal. They are famous for their single varietal Alvarinhos, and for good reason. Find some. Get some. Drink some, and be happy!
