We have seen this year after year, in California (and other growing regions). How has climate change and Californias fire season permanently impacted grape growing / harvest? How are growers and winemakers anticipating/ preparing for these fires? How are they tackling ever-changing impacts of climate change in general?

I am assuming that smoke, as well as evacuations, dictate / play a significant role in when the grapes are picked. Perhaps the winemaker would like the grapes to stay on the vine another week or two longer but that simply isn't feasible with fires quickly approaching.
Posted from Matthiasson’s Instagram today! Most of the smoke seems to be heading East but Santa Cruz Mountains, Monterey County, and Sonoma are all feeling the threat of smoke taint.
So far we aren't getting the conditions for smoke taint. The heat wave pushed ripening up so we are rocking and rolling. See this article for more: https://www.wine-searcher.com/m/2020/08/firestorm-danger-for-california-grape-harvest
The head of the company I work for spoke last week about the desperate need for fire relief & aid from the federal government. I also imagine that we are getting little to no fire relief from out of state or out of country given covid. It is terribly sad to see so much of the west coast burning right now. What can we do?
i wish i knew. so so sad. we need to get better at preventing these fires. we KNOW they're coming.
