I finally crossed the Pacific Northwest off my bucket list this year, although I still have more exploring to do in the future! My boyfriend and I were so thrilled with our experience we created an entire video series to recap the producers we visited (available to watch on my IG @angd1231). Not only is it truly stunning scenery, the wines are incredibly elegant and share a common "Old-Worldliness" quality to them:
1. The fruit is ripe on the nose but rarely appears ripe or overripe on the palate
2. Their is a strong mineral component throughout each wine we tasted
3. The wines finish with acid rather then fruit like you would expect in most New World wines
*Not an OW vs NW distinction but the producers are awesome people and were truly wonderful to chat with and get to know!
This trip wouldn't have been possible without The Washington State Wine Commission, more specifically David Flaherty, who connected us to each producer for the weekend. Him and his team are rockstars!
I emplore you to get into the Gorge and find some wines to try! Here are the producers we were fortunate enough to visit:
-AniChe Cellars
-Syncline Winery
-Hiyu Wine Cellars
-Savage Grace Wines
-Idiot's Grace Wines
-COR Cellars
-Domaine Pouillon
A glimpse of the beauty...
